How to Connect Your Own AI Models
Learn how to bring your own OpenAI, Claude, or Gemini API keys to Reepl for AI-powered content generation
Reepl lets you connect your own AI provider API keys so you can use models from OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), and Google (Gemini) for content generation. This is called Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) and is available on all plans, including Free.
Open the AI Models & API page
Navigate to Settings > AI Models & API or go directly to AI Models & API in the app. You see two sections: Connected (active providers) and Available (providers you can add).
Select an AI provider
Click the card for the provider you want to connect:
- OpenAI -- Use GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini, o1, o3, and other OpenAI models
- Claude / Anthropic -- Use Claude Sonnet and Opus models
- Gemini / Google -- Use Google Gemini models
Enter your API key
Paste your API key into the dialog field. Each provider has a specific key format:
- OpenAI: Starts with
sk- - Claude / Anthropic: Starts with
sk-ant- - Gemini / Google: Starts with
AIza
Click Add API Key to validate and save the connection.
Verify the connection
The provider card moves to the Connected section with an active status badge. A model selector dropdown appears, letting you choose which model to use.
Once connected, your chosen AI models appear in the Copilot chat input, the AI Writing Assistant, and the integration details page. Content generation uses your own provider billing instead of Reepl credits.
Free users who connect an OpenAI key get Pro-level access to creation tools. If you later remove the key without a payment method on file, you lose access to those features.
